Over many years working as an independent ICT contractor, my experiences with IT recruitment and service companies has taught me to not expect very much from them. That hasn’t always been the case. Earlier in my career, there was a much more personal approach, which I believe yielded a far better understanding of a client’s needs with a better match with a candidate’s skills and experiences. Quite simply, I’ve found that the larger number of ICT recruiters have become more concerned with having you on their books than working with you to identify an appropriate work engagement for you.
Thankfully, my experience with Aventious was remarkably different and has reaffirmed my foundational ‘old school’ approach is similarly still valued within ICT service companies. The benefits of the Aventious approach is multi-faceted. I wasn’t just a name on their books, waiting to receive a (spam) email that has questionable connection to my experience. I spoke with various members of the Aventious team (all of which knew who I was and what I was seeking to do) to discuss various potential roles that were clearly an extension to my work and related to my career aspirations. The Aventious team weren’t only trying to engage me with a client – they were committed to ensuring that the engagement was to be the right fit for both parties.
My engagement process with Aventious spanned several months, across which there were frequent conversations about the roles available – which also reflected that Aventious were very much in tune with their clients to understand not only the specific skills and nuanced experiences, but also the personal attributes and workplace environment aspects that are important to a good fit for a candidate.
