Objective
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Health and Aged Care needed to develop a comprehensive and scalable vaccination strategy. The challenge was to create a solution that could accommodate the rapidly evolving logistics and distribution demands while integrating various external systems. The program aimed to ensure the efficient procurement, distribution, and administration of vaccines nationwide, safeguarding public health and enabling a swift response to the pandemic’s impact on Australia.
Our Role
Aventious was engaged to provide essential architecture services for the COVID-19 National Vaccine Program. We worked closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including State and Territory Health Departments, federal agencies, and private sector partners, to design a highly agile and scalable supply chain management solution. Our team developed an integration architecture that connected external systems such as public websites, eligibility checkers, and booking platforms, ensuring seamless operations. Additionally, we conducted thorough security assessments to protect sensitive data and supported continuous solution modification to align with changing vaccine policies.
Outcome
Aventious’s contributions were pivotal in the successful execution of the COVID-19 National Vaccine Program. The system we architected remained stable and operational throughout the program, adapting flawlessly to policy changes and fluctuating demands. Our work facilitated the registration of nearly 13,000 vaccination sites and the distribution of over 42 million vaccine doses, achieving 90% coverage of eligible Australians within nine months. The program’s success was further highlighted by the continuous administration of 70.5 million doses to 22.2 million individuals, demonstrating the system’s resilience and scalability.

Objective
The Aged Care Transformation Program (ACTP) is a critical initiative led by the Department of Health and Aged Care in response to the Aged Care Royal Commission’s Recommendations. The program aims to revolutionise aged care services in Australia by implementing significant legislative, policy, operational, and IT changes. The objective is to create a more inclusive, responsive, and equitable aged care system that prioritises innovation, accountability, and person-centred care for all Australians.
Our Role
Aventious has been deeply involved in the ACTP by providing lead Business Analysts who play a pivotal role in the program’s success. Our team coordinated and facilitated extensive discovery workshops, gathering and refining complex requirements into actionable work packages. We supported the development of standardised frameworks for IT changes, managed scope negotiations, and resolved issues that arose during the IT delivery phases. Additionally, our Business Analysts partnered with IT teams to support all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), contributing to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the program.
Outcome
Aventious’s involvement has led to the successful delivery of numerous IT projects within the ACTP, with many more currently in progress. Our efforts have resulted in real, public-facing changes that have enhanced operational efficiencies and service delivery within the aged care sector. Objective
The Residential Aged Care Funding Reform (RACFR) Program required the decommissioning of a legacy ICT system by Services Australia. This prompted the Department of Health and Aged Care to undertake significant data migration and integration changes to ensure that their Aged Care Data Warehouse (ACDW) could continue to function effectively. The project’s objective was to modernise the technology stack while mitigating any potential impact on the Department’s mature data and reporting capabilities, ensuring continued critical reporting during the transition.
Our Role
Aventious was tasked with leading the technical delivery of this complex solution implementation. We worked closely with Executive Staff across multiple agencies to coordinate and represent the necessary changes to the ACDW. Our team managed scope, scheduling, and planning activities under a time-pressured program. We led a large technical team through the design, development, testing, and implementation phases, ensuring that the ACDW could integrate with Services Australia’s new systems. Additionally, we planned and executed an extensive testing regime and implemented critical risk mitigation strategies to protect the integrity of departmental data.
Outcome
Aventious successfully delivered the necessary changes to the ACDW, allowing it to continue functioning seamlessly despite the decommissioning of the legacy system. Our efforts resulted in strong, productive relationships between stakeholder groups, ensuring that requirements were met, and contingency plans were in place. The project safeguarded data integrity and enabled the Department to maintain critical reporting capabilities during a period of significant platform and integration changes. Objective
The Aged Care Gateway (ACG) and the Aged Care Data Warehouse (ACDW) within the Department of Health and Aged Care rely heavily on Oracle Exadata for operational database and data warehousing needs. With the current version nearing its end of support, the Department faced the critical decision of either refreshing or upgrading the product to maintain operational efficiency and compliance. Aventious was engaged to provide expert advice on the most suitable course of action to ensure continued functionality and support.
Our Role
Aventious took a comprehensive approach to evaluate the aging Oracle Exadata product. We began by assessing the current state and the implications of the end-of-support scenario. Our team conducted extensive research on various upgrade options, including both appliance refreshes and cloud-based solutions. We carefully examined factors such as scalability, performance, security, and cost-effectiveness. Drawing on our industry expertise, we provided a comparative analysis of the available options and conducted a viability study to quantify the financial implications and operational impact of each choice. This informed the Department’s decision-making process.

The outcome of Aventious’s involvement was the Department’s decision to adopt a hybrid Exadata model, leveraging cloud technology to reduce ongoing costs and enhance productivity. The new infrastructure provided more agile and scalable capabilities, allowing for elastic CPU scaling to meet changing workload demands. This solution improved performance for large workloads and ensured continued operational efficiency. Additionally, our transparent and ethical approach throughout the procurement process ensured that the Department received well-rounded, unbiased recommendations, leading to a successful and sustainable implementation.

Objective
The Government Provider Management System (GPMS) is a comprehensive platform developed by the Department of Health and Aged Care to streamline the management of healthcare providers across Australia. This system centralises and automates various aspects of provider management, including registration, accreditation, and compliance monitoring. The goal is to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the healthcare provider ecosystem, ensuring that the management processes are consolidated into a single, robust platform that can adapt to the Department’s evolving needs.
Our Role
Aventious has been instrumental in the ongoing delivery and operational support of the GPMS. Our team leads key deliverables and prioritises tasks to align with project objectives, manages major incidents to minimise disruptions, and oversees the release process, including Business Verification Testing (BVT) and hot fix management. We also serve as the GPMS Data Lead, ensuring data integrity and efficiency in both Business as Usual (BAU) and migration activities. Additionally, we act as an interagency liaison to foster collaboration with key stakeholders, monitor progress, and mentor APS staff to build capacity and capabilities within the Department.

Aventious’s involvement in the GPMS has led to significant improvements in project delivery and operational efficiency. Our effective management of major incidents has minimised downtime, while our oversight of release activities has ensured smooth deployments and timely updates. Objective
The Foreign Investment Digital Transformation initiative by Treasury aimed to overhaul and modernise the policies, procedures, and systems related to foreign investment in Australia. The primary goal was to streamline the foreign investment process, aligning it with economic and national security priorities while facilitating investment flows that benefit the Australian economy. The transformation required the unification of disparate systems and the enhancement of data management capabilities to support regulatory compliance, risk management, and strategic decision-making.
Our Role
Aventious played a critical role in this transformation by facilitating stakeholder sessions to elicit essential requirements and develop a robust data architecture. We gathered and analysed complex requirements for the Foreign Investor Case View, ensuring that it met stakeholder needs. Additionally, our team executed comprehensive data profiling exercises to identify gaps and quality issues within existing datasets. We developed artifacts to map and transform source data to align with the target system, ensuring a seamless transition and integration of data across platforms.
Outcome
Aventious successfully unified three disparate foreign investment systems, consolidating over 15 years of data into a single cohesive platform built on a Tier Data Architecture. This unification allowed for the decommissioning of redundant systems, reducing maintenance overhead and enhancing operational efficiency. We also cleansed, matched, and mastered over 24,000 investor records, significantly improving data quality and reliability. The migration of approximately 80,000 commercial investment proposals to the Fiat Data Repository provided stakeholders with comprehensive datasets for analysis, giving them unprecedented insights into foreign investments and supporting effective regulatory compliance and strategic planning.

Our Role
Aventious played a crucial role in the GPMS project by leading the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phase. We identified testing requirements by analysing user stories and collaborated with business stakeholders to ensure clarity in requirements, enabling accurate test case design. Our team executed tests in a controlled environment, meticulously recording results and raising defects promptly. We also ensured that defects were tracked and resolved efficiently by collaborating closely with business analysts and developers, maintaining a focus on quality and timeliness throughout the testing process.

The actions taken by Aventious led to significant improvements in the quality and timeliness of IT deliverables. Timely defect reporting and the completion of UAT tasks within required timeframes ensured that the GPMS met user expectations and minimised the risk of post-production issues.
